NEW YORK -- In his own view, Marlo Smart put together his best professional season in 2033. How appropriate, then, that he is The Associated Press 2033 Defensive Player of the Year.

The versatile Smart had 160 tackles, 7 sacks, 0 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles with 0 defensive touchdowns, and was a key to the Buccaneers' turnaround on defense. His role on the defense earned Smart a majority of votes Tuesday from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league.
