The 6' 0" SS fits the team's needs perfectly. Said Northeast general manager: "It's up to us to develop him and get good players around him."
"The great thing about the game of football is, it's a team game," Shelton said on a conference call. "I'm just going to be one piece of the puzzle."Moore and Nox Mock DraftPick 1: Team Northeast Larry Moore: Alonso Shelton - SS Enough speed to not be a liability. But cannot be asked to cover speedsters on his own. That is not a problem though, they have other players for that.He has a well developed tackling technique. Coaches like that. They need him now. Well yesterday actually. They will love him tomorrow. They will revere him by the end of his career.
Jim Nox: Eric Trejo - CB Known for helping out teammates, if they hit a rough patch, whether it is on the field or in their personal lives. Almost no one can outrun this young man. You can put him in man coverage against anyone. When the available talent fits what you need, there is reason to celebrate. They are getting a great talent who will serve them for many years.
Pick 2: Team Southwest Larry Moore: Leo Slayton - DT Teammates gravitate toward him, they follow his lead. Coaches love that about him. This kid is so fast. He might not go here, but this kind of speed will not stay long on the draft board. Some might say this is a 'need' pick, but we must remember, this is a really good player as well. He will contribute early and often. No losers here.
Jim Nox: Leo Slayton - DT Every team values leadership, someone to lead by example, this is the guy. Play him inside. Play him outside. He has the speed to do both. This is a kid who will need accounting for or he will take over the game. They need players at the position, and good ones at that. He fits the bill, he is worth the pick. End of story.
Pick 3: Team EuroCan Larry Moore: William Vasquez - SS He plays well with others. He understands there is a reason for each assignment on every play. Known among his teammates as a bit of a goofball, but never in a bad way. The kind that keeps spirits high even when a season goes south. He closes fast. Can really go sideline to sideline. Straight line speed is really a great asset here. Great technique on tackling. It is all about fit here. Is there a guy at a position of need, worthy of a pick this high? The answer, obviously, is 'heck yeah'.
Jim Nox: Alonso Shelton - SS Has above average closing speed. This is really what is important here. You want good mobility from your safeties.Solid technique on tackles. This guy is available. This guy fills a need. They have to take him. It makes so much sense.
Pick 4: Team APAC Larry Moore: Eric Trejo - CB Well liked in the locker room. Few players will beat him in the forty. They would be crazy not to take him here. A great fit, both in terms of what they need and the quality of player they get. This will put a smile on many faces.
Jim Nox: Roy Morrow - TE This kid is not afraid to work hard. Not among the fastest Tight Ends, but faster than he is given credit for. Good instincts. He can do what they want. He will deliver results early. He fits a need. End of story.
Pick 5: Team West Larry Moore: Richard Daughtry - WR Intangibles, leadership, what's not to love? This is the kind of kid you want to promote the game. Well behaved, loves the game, and respectful. He takes care of his teammates. Most everyone who ever played with him, counts him as their friend. Fine catching ability, often comes down with the ball even when pressured. Makes defenders miss. Maintains his balance after the catch. Will change direction to avoid tacklers. Knowledgeable of the game. Do not be afraid to draft a position of need here. This kid is well worthy of a pick this early. Perfect situation for him, and great fit for the team.
Jim Nox: Bobby Morin - FS He is sharp, and that makes him very coachable. Rock solid player is just what they need. A great fit here, both in terms of need and quality.
Pick 6: Team Southeast Larry Moore: Eugene Griffith - DE Nice speed for a Defensive End. Enough to keep contain and get sacks. Great fit for what they want to do. Strictly speaking they do not need him, but they will sure be better with him on the field.
Jim Nox: William Vasquez - SS He plays well with others. He understands there is a reason for each assignment on every play. Here you have a guy, who really benefits the atmosphere in the building. Everyone wants to be around him. This kind of speed gets you picked early. Teams are looking for players who can cover or chase down runs. This young man can do that. He has a well developed tackling technique. Keep hoarding talent. That is really how you win.
Pick 7: Team World Larry Moore: Roy Morrow - TE The guy has his head on straight. Is fast enough to command real attention from cornerbacks. Good instincts. With this kid, this is a need pick they will not regret.
Jim Nox: Eugene Griffith - DE More than enough speed for the position. This will become evident as he develops. Fans, coaches, and teammates alike will be ecstatic to get him on the team. He fits what they need, he is such a great talent. Everything lines up.
Pick 8: Team Midwest Larry Moore: Robert Watson - SS Will not have a hard time digesting a pro playbook. They will be running to the podium for this one.
Jim Nox: Alex Wells - T He will have a legit shot at winning bets arm wrestling the veterans. The kind of strength this kid has earns a lot of respect in a locker room. Execution in the running game is something coaches have noticed about him. He blocks pretty well. They would be crazy not to take him here. A great fit, both in terms of what they need and the quality of player they get. This will put a smile on many faces.
Pick 9: Team Northeast Larry Moore: John Betts - SS This kid puts in the work. He helps everyone get in the right position, making the team run as a well oiled machine. Good instincts. You need him, just get him already.
Jim Nox: John Betts - SS This kid is not afraid to work hard. I want this kid on my team. He understands his role on the field, and how it fits in with what everyone else is doing. Well schooled in the game, and it shows on the field. They will be happy to get him, they could use an upgrade at the position, and he certainly fits the bill. A franchise caliber player. Just what they have been looking for.
Pick 10: Team Southwest Larry Moore: Bobby Morin - FS Consistently makes good decisions on the field. Rock solid player is just what they need. A great fit here, both in terms of need and quality.
Jim Nox: Richard Daughtry - WR Every team would benefit from his leadership. Respected for his good behavior on the field. Liked by coaches and teammates. Rarely drops the ball. Elusive. can work over the middle. can work in the slot. Great balance. Smart player. Good understanding of how plays develop, and where to be. He fills a need for them.
